1 QUALIFICATIONS.
1 . 1 Knowledge o f professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing pediatric, adolescent, adults, obstetrics, and geriatric patients, as appropriate. Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for professional practic e .
1.2 Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions and disease processes across the lifespan, as appropriate.
1.3 Knowledge of preventive health schedules , procedures , processes and education methods.
1.4 Knowledge of disease management and popula t i on health principles.
1.5 Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the de s i red effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the acc u r ate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as require d . Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions including disease progress , acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
1.6 Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
1.7 The nurse shall have at least 24 months of experience w it h in the last 48 months in a primary care clinic setting.
2 TYPE OF WORK. The duties include but are not limited to the following:
2 . 1 Strongly preferred working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health ben e f i t s .
2.2 Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions.
2.3 Coordinates pa t ie n t care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
2.4 Ensures compliance w i t h standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedure s , and guidelines used in the medical treatment facilit y . Provides care within ethical and l e g a l boundaries.
2.5 Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
2.6 Assesses patient needs telephonically.
2.7 Ability to recog n ize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
2.8 Ability to effec t i v ely communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
2.9 Excellent oral communic ati o n skills for patient/family education and telephone triage of patients. Telephone and in-person assessment/evalua t i on includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management ( ER, clinic, homecare) and follo w - u p care as required. Prescribes and communicates tr e at m ent plans and patient teaching in accordance w ith established protocols. Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
2.10 Excellent wri t t en communica t i on skills to perform accurate documenta t i o n, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts, in accordance with requirements.
2.11 Makes referral appointments and arranges specialty care as appropriate.
2.12 Skill in setting up , operating and monitoring specialized medical eq u ip m ent such as cardiac monitoring device s , EKG units , oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic specific equipmen t .
2.13 Performs/assists with procedures su c h as bladder catheterizations, administration of oxygen , visual acuity tests, EKGs, irrigation of eyes and ears, tympanogr a ms, splinting, phlebotomy and other clinic spe c if i c procedures, in accordance with established protocol s .
2 .14 Ensures for proper docum e n t ation of procedures and treatments.
2.15 E nsures all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. E nsures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed. E n sures medication/supplies are replenishe d .
2.16 Participates in the o r ientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
2.17 May be required to work various s h i ft s or augment clinical nursing support during the absence of other team nurses due to illness, leave or de p loyment,
2 .18 Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work ha b its and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiative s .

1. 1 Have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) by the American Heart Association. In addition to BCLS, cer t i f ication in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required for the Family Practice Uni t .
