OPS HEALTH SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a part-time Health Support Tech position that will support the delivery of the School Based Sealant Program for Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Suwannee and Lafayette County. The candidate will be required to work a flexible schedule of approximately 24 hours per week. The normal schedule requires candidate to work Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; however, there are occasional events that necessitate adjusting the schedule to accommodate our schools or marketing efforts.

Support SBSP delivery of services by retrieving students from classrooms and ensuring their safe return after treatment.

Ready the patient for dental care by welcoming, comforting, answering questions or concerns, seating, and draping them.

Assist in the delivery of dental services by disinfecting and preparing the room with instruments and materials needed for procedures.

Educate patients by assisting hygienist with nutritional counseling and oral hygiene instructions.

Document dental treatment on provided charting forms and patient records. Complete Medicaid and insurance billing for dental treatments provided.

Help hygienist manage dental emergencies by maintaining bi-annual CPR certification.

Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA guidelines.

Adhere to all infection control policies and protocols provided by the DOH training modules.

Assist in the regular preventive maintenance of dental equipment as specified by the manufacturer.

Assist hygienist in maintaining dental supply inventory.

Partner with hygienist’s marketing protocol in an effort to obtain and maintain a friendly, professional relationship with all students, parents, school employees, fellow DOH employees and members of the public who we come into contact with.

Attends trainings to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities as they relate to duties and responsibilities. Maintains professional development through job-related lectures, seminars, online trainings, teleconferences, etc.

Employee is responsible for ensuring his/her EARs and/or CSRs are input and verified in the HMS system in accordance with DOH/HMS guidelines and deadlines. Ensures EARs time is always in agreement with timesheet.

Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, that is stored in hard copy or electronic format.

Work Schedule: Times and Days may vary. Average 24 hours per week

Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Previous dental experience is preferred, but not necessary. Must have attributes that include being a good listener, dedicated team player and good chairside manner. Willingness to learn dental terminology, dental charting, infection control protocols and use of dental equipment and supplies. Candidate must be able to assist in moving portable dental equipment between locations.

Qualifications:

Minimum -. Ability to work a flexible schedule of approximately 24 hrs. per week. Including some additional dates and times for special events. Knowledge of basic computer skills such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred - Skilled in organizing assignments and time management. Ability to work as part of a team. Knowledge of basic client billing processes, Knowledge of Infection Control practices. CPR/AED Certification. Enjoys working with children.
