Department: Health Services - 660Position Summary: University Health Services (UHS) at Princeton University is a fully accredited (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, or 'AAAHC') health care facility. Located in the McCosh Health Center and the Caldwell Field house, UHS provides comprehensive health services to more than 7,500 Princeton undergraduate and graduate students, and specialized services to Princeton University faculty, staff, and employees.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Takes health history and performs physical examination and annual sexual health exam as indicated by the chief complaint.
  • Diagnoses and treats common gynecological problems.
  • Identifies and coordinates care for complex general and gynecological healt! h problems with other expert providers both within and outside! University Health Services.
  • Assesses psychosocial emotional, spiritual, environmental, behavioral, and cultural factors impacting client.
  • Diagnoses pregnancy and provides both pre-pregnancy counseling, pregnancy options counseling and early pregnancy related care.
  • Diagnoses selected conditions related to the male reproductive system, such as sexually transmitted infections, contraceptive needs, infertility.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Teaches, counsels and assists clients and their significant others to assume responsibility for the prevention of illness, and the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health in general and sexual health specifically.
  • Identifies, manages, and monitors uncomplicated common health problems
  • Prescribes modalities to promote wellness and management of illness, including but not limited to medication, nutrition, and exercise. Prescribing medications and immunizations is! done within the guidelines of the Nurse Practitioner's prescriptive authority of The New Jersey Board of Nursing.
  • Maintains knowledge of current national guidelines for Sexual Health and Wellness.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other disciplines in delivery of care, consulting and making referrals as needed.
  • Documents all patient encounters in the electronic medical record using Medicat.
  • Provides Sexual Health & Wellness coverage in the outpatient clinic.
  • May be called upon to assist in the delivery of primary care in the general medical outpatient clinic.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Supervises and acts as a resource to SHAW clinicians.
  • Provides periodic staff evaluations and formal annual performance appraisals.
  • Ensures staff participation in skills development programs.
  • Develop, reviews, and revises administrati! ve and patient care policies and procedures for SHAW.
  • Coordina! tes RN and NP/MD assignments to SHAW, including weekly OB/GYN MD consultants from outside UHS.
  • Serves as a resource to University Health Services staff on issues related to women's and men's sexual health.
  • Oversees SHAW preparation for AAAHC accreditation.
  • Complies with State guidelines for reporting STIs and sends copies of positive results to the state.
  • Oversees in-house HIV tests.
  • Tracks statistics for campus trends (STIs, Pregnancy, etc).
  • Ensures that patient care is done efficiently and in a safe, clean patient care environment.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Develops guidelines for abnormal Pap follow-up and STI testing in concert with national guidelines.
  • Oversees RN in follow up on abnormal Paps.
  • Serves as a resource to the University regarding issues related to sexual health and wellness, including Sexual Harassment Assault/ Advising Resources and Education Office, Peer Educ! ators, Resident Advisors, LGBT Center and others.
  • Oversees budget and ensures efficiency and effectiveness of services offered in SHAW.
  • Is seen as a collaborative team player, an astute problem solver, and contributes to creative solutions with a style that promotes good will.
  • Is widely trusted, seen as a direct, truthful colleague and is adept at creating win-win situations with a diverse group of students, employees, and partners.
  • Possesses exceptional written, digital, and oral communication skills.

  • New Jersey Licensure as a registered professional Nurse.
  • Completion of a master's program in nursing with specialization as a Women's Health nurse practitioner.
  • AANP (or equivalent national certification) as a Nurse Prac! titioner.
  • New Jersey state certification as a Nurse Practition! er.
  • Minimum of four years experience as a Nurse Practitioner at least two of which shall have included the provision of women's health care.
  • Minimum of two years administrative experience.
  • Excellent physical assessment skills.
  • Willingness to work in collaboration with the gynecologic consulting physicians.
  • Competence in IUD insertion preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, ability to learn the UHS-specific program, Medicat, and use EMR effectively.
  • CPR/AED certification.
